Intern Recap - Kelsey Russell
Hi! My name is Kelsey Russell and I am from Morehead City, NC. I am currently a rising senior at East Carolina University Majoring in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. My internship experience with AgCarolina this summer has been nothing short of amazing! I was placed in the New Bern branch so I have to ability to commute from home. This has allowed me to still enjoy some of my favorite summer afternoon activities such as boat rides, exercising, and spending time with my family.
Over the past few months I’ve had several learning opportunities such as attending a farm visit, working directly with the loan officers, and tackling the two assigned summer intern projects. However, what I’ve found the most rewarding about my time as an intern is that I am now able to make the connection between what I’ve learned in the classroom, and how it applies to the real world. From a young age we are taught how to do things, but not exactly why we do them. This internship has knocked down that mental barrier between “how” and “why”, and I believe will help further prepare me for the real world after college.
As I sit here and reflect on my time at AgCarolina I can’t help but to acknowledge the personal and intellectual growth I’ve had this summer. I would like to thank the New Bern branch manager, Mr. Jeff Barnes, for being an amazing mentor. I cannot thank him enough for helping me learn more about the importance of Farm Credit and the impact it has on farmers all over the nation.
I would also like to thank Skipper Jones and John Bledsoe for having confidence in my ability to do this internship. Although I did not grow up on a farm, I do have an understanding and appreciation for farming in eastern North Carolina. Starting on the first day I was tasked to learn more about the agriculture industry and since have challenged myself to continue this task even after my time at AgCarolina comes to an end.
I could not have asked for a better work environment this summer! Everyone has been beyond helpful throughout the entire internship process and I would like to thank you all for making my experience at AgCarolina so amazing. I have much more to learn before entering my professional career, but am confident that my internship with AgCarolina has set me up for great success!
