The AgCarolina Farm Credit internship was a one of a kind experience!
The AgCarolina Farm Credit internship was a one of a kind experience. The people I got to work with on a daily basis made me feel at home and would do anything for you. Over the last couple of months, I have had the opportunity to shadow and work alongside some of the best loan officers in the ag lending business. They have taught me many things, from the basics of creating a loan package, to how to complete different types of crop and equipment evaluations.
One of the highlights of my summer was observing the stevia crop planted for the first time this year in Halifax County. I had never heard of this crop before working at AgCarolina so this was something new to me. Over the last month, I have had the privilege of watching this crop grow and learning more about stevia itself. I really enjoyed building relationships with the farmers that were growing this crop. They were always open to questions and taught me more and more each time I spoke with them. I really appreciated the loan officer that was responsible for the stevia project. He took the time to include me during the crop inspections and answer any question that I might have had. People like this are the ones that made me want to come to work each and every morning.
Coming into this internship, I thought I knew a pretty good amount about the aspects surrounding farming. Boy was I wrong. I have learned so much in such a short amount of time it is unreal. I have seen myself grow over this internship in many different ways, from farming knowledge to customer relations. The information that I have gained through this internship has built a strong foundation of the industry that I will use throughout my professional career. I cannot thank the entire AgCarolina staff enough for giving me this tremendous opportunity and making this a summer that will not be forgotten. I am looking forward to seeing what my future might hold!
